About Bené Viera

Bené Viera is a writer, editor, and communications professional with over a decade of experience. She began her journalism career in NYC as an obscure freelance writer who wrote for free to build a name for herself. Editors for national publications took note and began assigning her stories. Being able to meet her deadlines, oftentimes early, editors called on her repeatedly. She went from a fairly unknown writer to writing for ESSENCE, VIBE, GQ, ESPN, ELLE, The New York Times, and many more.

Throughout her journalism career she held staff writer and editor positions at VH1, Centric TV, ESSENCE Fest, The Frisky and EBONY. Her editing experience includes conceptualizing print magazines from beginning to end and top editing various sections. As a consultant she has edited first draft books, thesis, dissertations, newsletters, and more.

When journalism became too unstable, Bené transitioned to corporate communications then non-profit. She has built two communications departments from the ground up, implemented communications strategies, ran point on PR, oversaw digital social media, wrote talking points/speeches for C-level suite executives and strengthened employer branding.
